OUR SERVICES

Metroplex Veterans Legal Services (MVLS), a project of Metroplex Military Charitable Trust, offers pro bono legal help to Veterans. MVLS offers single-issue pro bono legal clinics to Veterans throughout the State of Texas. MVLS is the only statewide Veterans pro bono legal clinic program in Texas. Our legal clinics focus on removing the legal barriers to employment and housing for Veterans and assisting disabled Veterans to obtain military/VA disability benefits. The goal of our clinics is to provide free legal counsel and advice to low income, unemployed, homeless, disabled, elderly, or at risk for homelessness Veterans. The Veterans legal clinics are for child support modification; expunction of criminal arrests; orders of non-disclosure for successfully completed deferred adjudication; combat-related special compensation; consumer fraud and bankruptcy. Delinquent child support can lead to suspended driver’s licenses, which can lead to barriers for these Veterans to obtain employment, and can lead to homelessness.

OUR CLINICS

The Veterans pro bono legal services are offered solely at Veterans pro bono legal clinics throughout the State of Texas. No legal services or referrals are provided by phone or e-mail. All of the Veterans must attend the legal clinic in order to receive any legal services. The legal clinics we are providing are innovative and seem to have never been attempted before in our area. We are the first non-profit legal clinic in Texas, to offer online registration for clients for our legal clinics. The online registration streamlines the registration process and check-in process at the legal clinics. Also, the online registration allows for case research to be completed in advance of the legal clinic. Additionally, law firms and corporate counsel can run conflict checks in advance of the legal clinic as well.

An additional innovative feature of our legal clinics is they are single-issue legal clinics. We have offered single issue legal clinics for expunction/order of non-disclosure, child support modification, employment law, consumer fraud, bankruptcy, and combat-related special compensation (a military benefit for disabled retired Veterans). We match pro bono attorneys with extensive expertise and experience to the single-issue of the legal clinic.

*Walk-ins will not be accepted. You must register online in advance of a clinic. You can follow us on Facebook to learn about upcoming clinics.

CHILD SUPPORT MODIFICATION

The Veteran’s Child Support Modification Clinics is a partnership with the HEROES program of the Attorney General of Texas. The Attorney General of Texas’ Child Support Division HEROES program provides veterans and their dependents with enhanced, personalized assistance in addressing child support matters. The HEROES program also provides appropriate relief in Texas child support cases where military service/combat-related injuries have contributed to non-compliance with court orders. Two Assistant Attorneys General from the HEROES project attend the child support modification clinics in addition to family law attorneys.
